Building Trades And Construction Trades Council
The Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council supports the interests of nearly 100,000 construction workers in the State of Michigan. The Council pursues legislative action and awareness on matters that affect our members. This can include economic development and project funding; job training; retirement planning; and such day-to-day concerns as workplace health and safety, workers’ rights and the payment of prevailing wages.

According to their constitution, the mission of the SMWIA is to establish and maintain desirable working conditions and thus provide for themselves and their families that measure of comfort, happiness, and security to which every citizen is entitled in return for their labor, from a deep sense of pride in their trade, to give a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. They have been training Sheet Metal Worker apprentices for the Detroit area for more than 65 years.
